Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo finishes second in Motorland Aragon GP FP1 – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo was second in the final time sheet of the first free practice session at Motorland Aragon.
Meanwhile, the Spaniard’s Texan teammate, Ben Spies was occasionally in the session third but later settled for the 11th position by the end.
Lorenzo said, “This morning we started in a good direction, finishing second just four tenths slower than Dani who was top. It’s too early to make too many conclusions because the track is too dirty so tomorrow will be the real day to see who is fastest.”
The defending world champion was discontent with the cancellation of the second practice session on Friday.
The team was scheduled to try out different settings on the first day, but now it will be held in the extended FP3. Lorenzo was merely half a second slower than charts leader Dani Pedrosa and settled at second position in the session.
The Texan, Ben Spies was able to top at third position in the first practice outing for the Motorland Aragon GP. He topped the charts for a short while due to soft slicks on his factory M1. Later in the session he could not deliver impressive lap times that
dropped him to 11th position.
Spies said, “This morning was actually quite a good session for us; we were up to third position and then we opted not to change tyres and work on the set up. It seems everyone else tried the harder tyre in the end which worked a lot better so we’re looking
forward to using that.”
The aim of the team is to sort out the race package for the raceday. However, they could not do so on Friday and will look to make amends for that on Saturday.
Now the team hopes that the longer FP3 will be held under good weather and they will have sufficient time to test the changes. Like other riders, Spies is also conscious about the tyre choice and tends to make a good decision for the race day.
