Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo in search of stability at Motegi Twin Ring – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo spent his first practice day at the Twin Ring Motegi to enhance stability of his YZR-M1.
Meanwhile, his teammate Ben Spies suffered from severe food poisoning from his flight to Japan.
The Spaniard ran the morning’s outing to develop the soft aspects of his M1. The Motegi circuit is technically demanding and its layout tends the riders to brake hard. While leaving the corners, riders have to open full throttles for instant acceleration.
Lorenzo said, “We improved the lap time quite a lot from the morning to the afternoon session but it’s still not enough, the competition is very strong here. It is going to be a very difficult weekend to fight for the podium and the victory.”
During the first session, Lorenzo was able score a fifth place in the final time sheet. He was 0.623 seconds off from the pace of Stoner. However, during the second session, the M1 was brought out with little changes.
Following the revised setup, Lorenzo was able to score better lap times. Although he could not stand in the top three slots but he managed to improve ahead of his best lap time from the morning session.
On the other side of the Yamaha factory garage, the young Texan was suffering from severe food poisoning, which he picked up during the flight from his home to Japan. Ben Spies was not feeling well to fully participate in the first practice day.
For the first session, he was able to get an eighth position in the final time sheet but for the second session he was too exhausted. Spies only rode five laps to call it a day.
Spies said, “What a shocking start to the weekend, I don’t think I’ve ever been as sick as I was on the journey over here, I was nearly not allowed on the plane. I’m slowly getting my strength back thanks to the great guys at Clinica but didn’t have enough
to ride properly in the second session.”
The Texan rider expressed that he could not keep a clear vision of the track which was causing trouble for him. The Clinica Mobile on-track health team is working to eradicate his problem as soon as possible.
