Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo needs more power to beat Casey Stoner – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo says he needs a more powerful bike to beat Casey Stoner.
The new powerful M1 Yamaha engine is expected in August 2011.
Lorenzo scored a victory at Silverstone in 2010 and with the same event coming up next in the ongoing MotoGP season, he is being considered a strong candidate. Yamaha team manager, Wilco Zeelenberg is optimistic of heading for the British round and team
director Massimo Meregalli is also expecting good results.
Yamaha Factory Racing rider, Jorge Lorenzo said, “I would like to fight for wins this year. With this bike it is going to be tough. So I need a little improvement to make the bike quicker. But also I would like to fight for wins in 2012. I trust the power
of Yamaha to make both bikes competitive.”
Lorenzo is still leading the championship points table after five rounds with a seven-point lead from his top rival, Casey Stoner. Stoner is so far the only rider to have three race wins in the ongoing season after five rounds. In comparison, Lorenzo only
has one victory at Jerez, Spain which came in wet conditions.
The Spaniard availed the opportunity when his main rival Stoner was knocked out by Valentino Rossi while overtaking. Both riders fell and only Rossi was able to restart and finished fifth.
The fact remains that Honda RCV are benefiting from the new clutch system and the riders are excited after their double victory at Le Mans and Catalunya.
Lorenzo said, “I wait for improvements with anything. If its engine I will be most happy. If it's a chassis that gives me some tenths that will be fine, but we need something to fight with Casey at this moment. There may be some tracks where he is not 100
percent, does not like, or is not able to be very strong. Like Estoril.”
Lorenzo also said that he will be happy to play his role in the development of the new chassis for M1. The improvements can shred few tenths of a second form lap times. This can help them to get in a balanced fight with the Hondas. Let’s see how it turns
out.
