Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo takes 3rd win of the season at San Marino GP – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo claimed his third victory in the 2011 MotoGP season at the Misano World Circuit.
After the last win at Mugello, the Spanish rider lacked the factor to win races and regain the world championship lead.
After hard work and determination at last, Lorenzo made his way to the winning step on the podium. Though he could not beat Casey Stoner in championship points but he has shortened the points gap from 44 to 35 points. He started the race from second position
on the grid and made his mark from the start off.
Lorenzo said, “Today has been an incredible day for us. I delivered a good race; it was a very tough and long one. Most importantly we won again and also reduced our gap to Casey. I want to dedicate this victory to Wayne who returned to Misano this weekend.”
Lorenzo also thanked his team for the hard work done to accomplish such goal. Looking forward to his next home event at Motorland Aragon he is determined to continue his winning streak.
Following the race day, Yamaha factory riders will be testing the new 1000cc prototype. The Spanish rider marked the race day as one of his best days in motorcycle racing.
On the other side of the garage, Ben Spies fought to race well with an average M1 setup. The race conditions were tough with high temperatures and humidity. The Texan rider started the race from fourth position but dropped to seventh in the first lap.
Spies said, “We started out with an OK set up but we didn’t really go forward all weekend, struggling a lot with edge grip. I wasn’t having a great feeling with the front either so we tried something new in warm up this morning - which was honestly a disaster.”
After getting along the tough race conditions, he tried and made an impressive pass on homeboy, Valentino Rossi to score sixth position in the race. After chasing the Italian duo ahead of him, he finally settled for a sixth position across the finish line.
