Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo thinks he is losing 2011 title chase – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo thinks he is losing the 2011 title chase to Repsol Honda rider, Casey Stoner.
Stoner is leading the 2011 MotoGP championship with a 44-point advantage over the 2010 defending champion.
Lorenzo is now gearing up for the Twin Ring Motegi for the Grand Prix of Japan. The factory Yamaha rider hopes to recover his points’ gap from this event. He hopes that his M1 will be competitive enough to beat the RCVs.
Lorenzo said, “Normally it is a difficult track for us because there is a lot of acceleration and long straights but we come here with the motivation to win. Casey has won more races and it is normal that he has so many points and maybe it is too late to
try and beat him for the championship.”
In the present 2011 season, Lorenzo has bagged only three wins with six podium finishes. On the contrary, Stoner has won eight races with five podiums and has only missed one podium at Jerez.
Lorenzo added, “There are still four races left and we will try to the end because there are still 100-points to play for, so you never know. We must keep the motivation and think that everything is possible.”
Including the Motegi event, there are four rounds to go before the 2011 season ends. From the last four rounds, a total of 100 points can be availed with consistent performances. However, it is yet to see who claims the victory for the first Asian round
of the 2011 season.
The Twin Ring Motegi circuit is a very demanding track both physically and technically. A rider needs to focus hard while taking sharp slow bends which exit into short straights. The stop and go track layout will be hard on riders.
Considering the race performance of the Yamaha M1, it is slow on acceleration from corner exits but has a good grip on braking. Therefore, it will be a mixed round for the M1 riders in factory and satellite teams.
