Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo to strive for win at Assen – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing team rider Jorge Lorenzo is hoping to win the next round of the 2011 MotoGP season in Assen, Netherlands.
The defending world champion, Lorenzo was affected by the wet race conditions at Silverstone, which cost him the 2011 championship lead. It was the Spaniard’s first ‘did not finish’ status of the 2011 season.
Lorenzo said, “I feel disappointed because the crash was my own mistake. It's a shame for the team because they did a very good job all weekend and also my Fan Club who came here to support me.”
Yamaha’s factory rider, Jorge Lorenzo faced a bike damaging crash in his pursuit of a British Grand Prix win. The defending world champion retired from the race soon after his teammate Ben Spies crashed out collecting his third DNF in the 2011 season.
The Spaniard was riding closely on the tail of Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso, looking for a chance to overtake him. Though he led the opening lap until the second bend but shortly he was hunted down by both Repsol Honda riders, firstly Andrea Dovizioso
and then by Casey Stoner.
The San Carlo Honda Gresini rider also passed ahead Lorenzo dropping him to fourth place in the race. The Barcelona boy awaited the opportunity to leap ahead and Simoncelli faced a high side giving clean space to Lorenzo for a third place in the race.
Lorenzo added, “I was riding with confidence, but I had to wait my moment to overtake Andrea. I think I could have fought for the victory with Casey. I wasn't worried that Simoncelli was catching me; I was worried because Casey was going if I didn't overtake
Andrea, then I crashed!”
The hot pursuit of the Repsol duo made him push his M1 harder than ever. Though Honda were not expected to perform well on the wet track but their determination and careful tactics gave them a shot to victory.
After the British GP, Casey Stoner is leading the table while Lorenzo has dropped to second spot with a gap of 18 points.
