Yamaha Factory Racing team confirms participation in the Japanese Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing team has officially declared that it will attend the Japanese Grand Prix with both of its factory riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies.
Yamaha factory’s spokesperson said, “Yamaha Factory Racing herewith confirms the attendance of its riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies to compete for round 15 of the 2011 MotoGP World Championship at Motegi in Japan on 2nd October.”
Earlier in the season, the team had doubts about participating in the 15th MotoGP round due to take place in Japan. The race event faced huge criticism since the earthquake and subsequent tsunami had devastated the country
earlier in 2011.
Spanish factory team rider, Jorge Lorenzo also expressed his reservations about the Japanese event. The problem arose after the damage to Fukushima nuclear plant which caused the spread of radiation in the surroundings.
The Motegi circuit is situated within 100 kilometres from the plant which raises the problem of radiation. However, International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) and Dorna Sports commissioned ARPA agency to report the fact by collecting facts from the area.
The research declared the area safe from any sort of radiation.
Many MotoGP riders including Casey Stoner were not in favour of the race earlier on, but they softened their stance later. Valentino Rossi, Marco Simoncelli and Jorge Lorenzo were against the Japanese GP until Yamaha’s official confirmation.
The Yamaha spokesperson further said, “The Yamaha Factory Racing team will race in Yamaha's WGP50th Anniversary red and white livery for the 4th time this year at the home GP of team owner Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd.”
The factory team has also revealed that they will participate in the event with their 50th anniversary celebrations livery which is red and white.
The crew, bikes, riders and the garages will be coloured red and white for the occasion. It will be the fourth time in the 2011 season which will see the Yamaha team in the special colours.
After a recent victory at Misano, Lorenzo is motivated to head to Motorland Aragon and will try to continue his top performance thorough the last five rounds of the season. He is currently second in the championship 35 points adrift from leader Casey Stoner.
