Yamaha Factory Racing team hoping for a strong show at Silverstone circuit – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing team is focused for a strong performance at the upcoming AirAsia British Grand Prix.
The sixth round of the ongoing MotoGP season is due to take place on June 12, 2011 at the legendary British Silverstone circuit.
Jorge Lorenzo commented on Silverstone and expects the event to be positive for the team effort as he said, “I'm very happy because we are very consistent in the beginning of this season. Now we are going for our second visit to Silverstone, a track I like.
Last year was the first year and I made one of my best races; it was almost perfect.”
Lorenzo also added that as the season has turned out after five rounds it is going to be very tough and the competition with rivals is going to be a hard one. The Spaniard said that he is highly focused on the race results gathered after each event.
The Yamaha MotoGP team is also in pursuit to hold off Casey Stoner from his third win in a row who has already won three events out of five initial rounds in the 2011 season. Stoner’s strong momentum has closed his gap to seven points from early championship
leader Jorge Lorenzo.
While Lorenzo has visited podium four times in five events, his pace is slower than the Honda riders. With the Silverstone approaching, the Spaniard is confident with his M1 pace at the circuit, as he won the race from pole position in the 2010 British GP.
Ben Spies made his first visit to the podium at third place in the recently held Catalunya Grand Prix. It is his first podium with the Yamaha Factory team and first for him in the 2011 season. In 2010, Spies marked his first MotoGP podium in the British
GP.
American rider of the Yamaha Factory team Ben Spies said, “I can't wait to get to Silverstone and get back on the bike again. It's a track I really enjoy riding and where I got my first ever MotoGP podium last year. Catalunya definitely felt like we were
starting the season again, everything went smoothly and I felt really comfortable and able to challenge for the podium.”
The American rider has also extended his contract for one year with Yamaha Motor Company and will continue to race in the 2012 season with Yamaha on the new 1000cc M1s.
