Yamaha Factory Racing’s Ben Spies completes M1 testing at Valencia – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Ben Spies completed the important test session held at Ricardo Tormo circuit at Valencia.
The two-day test session was following the season finale event, Valencia GP. The MotoGP riders tested their 1000cc prototypes for 2012 season at the last official outing for 2011.
The Texan rider spent complete two day on testing two different kinds of engine specifications. He also tested several different kinds of frames with altered geometry settings. He reckoned that the test session was a long and tough one.
Spies said, “We had a lot of work to do with Jorge not being here but we’ve got through everything. I think we got the guys working in the right direction, we’re still quite a way from Qatar and what we’ll be racing with but we’ve got a good idea of what
we need to work on.”
The Yamaha factory rider is impressed with the potential in the machine. He feels that the bike has a lot to deliver in 2012. After the analysis, the bike will be sorted with new package for the first pre-season test at Sepang, Malaysia.
He thanked the team crew and the engineers who worked hard during the test session at Valencia.
Yamaha team director, Massimo Meregalli appreciated the effort put in by Spies. After the completion of the two-day test, Meregalli was pleased with the valuable information collected.
Meregalli said, “We got a lot of data, everything we were missing in the previous tests from cancellations and injuries etc. The work that we’ve done is good, the schedule is completed and we are quite satisfied. There is of course still some work to do
but I think it’s been positive.”
The team director shared further that the data is delivered back to Japan. The factory engineers at Yamaha will assess the data and sort further development aspect for the 2012 YZR-M1 ahead of the Sepang test session.
He praised the work done by Spies after losing at the same venue in the season finale. He added that he has never seen Spies so focused to test the bike and that is a good stance to start the coming season.
