Yamaha Factory rider Ben Spies still suffering from stressed neck nerve for Indy GP – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Ben Spies is still suffering from a stressed nerve in his neck.
During the last MotoGP event at Brno, he raced with severe pain. He is working hard to get fit for the Indy GP this weekend.
Now the American rider is at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the second home event, Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix taking place on August 28, 2011. The Texan is still feeling numbness in his arm.
Spies said, “I’m really hoping to be completely fit for this weekend. I’ve still got some numbness in the arm but it is better than it was at Brno. We’ve been working hard to get it right and we will of course give it 100% as always.”
Though he had physiotherapy after every practice session during the Czech GP but the problem remained through the race day. The numbness and pain caused him to settle for fifth place in the race.
Spies added, “I’ve been looking forward to this race all year; it was pretty crazy last year as a rookie to take pole and a second in the race. We’re going to put on a good show for all the home fans and see what we can do.”
Considering his 2010 performance at Indy, Spies secured pole seat on the grid and finished the race second on the podium while he was riding for the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team.
Earlier he described his Brno race as the most difficult and aching ride of the season. Spied also added that he was extremely willing to retire from the race due increasing pain in his arm. His strong motivation did let him complete the race but his arm
was also damaged while doing it.
He stands sixth in the 2011 MotoGP world championship points table. Meanwhile coming to Indy, he is focused to display a good race for his home crowd. During the first home event held at Laguna Seca he came fourth in the race, but he aims to recreate the
magic similar to the 2010 Indy GP.
