Yamaha Factory says there will be no team orders to support Jorge Lorenzo at Indianapolis – MotoGP
Yamaha Factory team has revealed that the team will not give any orders to help Jorge Lorenzo win the 2011 season title.
The Yamaha factory especially stressed for the upcoming round at Indianapolis where Lorenzo came third behind his present teammate Ben Spies in the 2010 event. Spies at that time was aboard a Tech3 machine.
Casey Stoner now leads the world championship with 32 points from Yamaha Factory Racing’ Jorge Lorenzo. On the other side Lorenzo’s teammate Ben Spies is sixth in the championship with 109 points.
Lorenzo said, “If your partner can help you - and they are not fighting for the championship - we are a team, no? Our salary is coming from our brand, so the partner should help you if it is possible. MotoGP is not like soccer, but it is still a team and
success for the brand is very important.”
While confirming Yamaha’s motive about handling its riders, a spokesperson from the factory team revealed that in past, the team has never given team orders to compensate a rider in the lead and will not be giving one in the future.
The speculation surfaced when Ben Spied scored a win for the factory team at Dutch TT Assen event and Lorenzo finished sixth in the race. Considering Lorenzo’s finish at Indy and Spies’ performance, the team has made it clear not to give any kind of team
orders.
Team Manager for Jorge Lorenzo, Wilco Zeelenberg expressed his views in favour of the Spaniard. Zeelenberg is convinced that a teammate can help other team rider if he is leading in the championship fight.
Lorenzo’s team manager, Wilco Zeelenberg said, “Valentino took too many risks and touched Jorge a couple of times, which should not have happened when Jorge is fighting for the championship.”
On the contrary, Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner totally opposes the idea of team orders. While referring to football he said that it is a different game. Every rider is fighting for its own win even though he is a teammate, he said.
