Yamaha Factory’s Jorge Lorenzo looking to beat Casey Stoner starting from Brno – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo is feeling confident to beat Casey Stoner in the 2011 MotoGP World Championship.
He expressed his views at the pre-race presser held at Brno, Czech Republic for Cardion AB Grand Prix.
Lorenzo said, “We know it’s going to be very hard work because he is riding so fast this year, so consistent, and has a good bike. But we are doing a lot, the bike is – I think – a winning bike, I am in good shape.”
The Spaniard added that from this race weekend they will work on to improve the M1 to ensure a challenging pace for Honda. He anticipates that the season ahead will be more interesting than the first half.
Lorenzo also accepted the fact that Stoner is very strong with Honda this season. After winning the season opening round at Qatar, Stoner was leading the points table. Following into the next round at Jerez, Stoner was crashed by Rossi and had to retire
from the race without any points.
This led Lorenzo to take the win and move up as the leader of the world championship points table. Shortly after Stoner displayed his potential and won races, he regained the points lead over Lorenzo.
Lorenzo further added, “In theory this is a good track for us, for the bike and my riding style, it’s a track that can be good for us. But this is just a theory. We must wait and see what happens during the weekend. The test on Monday is also going to be
really important, it will be the first time I try the new bike.”
The defending world champion said that he has not tried a 1000cc MotoGP prototype before than the upcoming test ride. He is keen to taste the sheer power of the 2012 model and looks ahead to adjust his racing style if needed.
Now Lorenzo is 20 points adrift from Stoner and aims to take the lead. Especially after the unfortunate loss at Laguna Seca, where Stoner took the win at the last moment, Lorenzo is focused to use every opportunity available.
