I have a Sharp 42" LCD, Yamaha HTD 6050, and Toshiba hd player the A30...

I want to know how to hook it all up.

I have tried numerous things....

HDMI from the HD player to the reciever, HDMI to the tv... no sorrund sound

HDMI from the HD player to the tv, optical to the sorrund sound, no sound... The yamaha reciever doesn't have an optical sound port for dvd, so I tried both cd port and cable port... nada

any help would be appreciated.

I have 2 HDMI cables

and 1 optical calbe, what to where and on any certain settings ???

  1. Your first approach (HDMI to receiver and from receiver to TV) should give you video (but won't give sound because the 6050 only passes through video over HDMI !! See the link). If it doesn't give video there are a couple of possibilities: bad HDMI cable(s) or a setting issue.

You tried HDMI direct from A30 to TV and it didn't work, but go back to that and check settings. You should get both video and audio over HDMI if the cable is good so check your output and input settings (menu on both the A30 and the Sharp to be sure the right ports are active. If you are sure they are correct try the other cable. If it works it was the first cable that is faulty. If neither work either both are bad or something isn't working.

Assuming good cables and right settings for active ports, you should be good with the following connections:

    - A30 connected via HDMI to 6050 and via optical to 6050 (use the assignable port).

    - HDMI from 6050 to LCD.

The Yamaha will then process audio and power the speakers, the video will pass through (and be switched by) the receiver and displayed on the Sharp.

    Good luck.
