I'm looking at superbikes and their BHP and I've came across the 08 R1 which claims without induction it produces 180bhp, with induciton it can produce 189bhp. What is is this induction and what does it do different to the 'non' induction. Do you have to ask for that particular model when purchasing a yamaha R1 or can it be fitted later on?

  1. Stick to the stock, non-inducted, it's still more horsepower then you'll ever need on the street. Some dealerships will have at least one Inducted model somewhere on site.  But for the money difference why pull the extra 9 BHP?

  2. It is possible to produce more hp w/induction.

all this means simply is the ram air effect on the bike will produce a few more hp

the large tubes on the front of the bike lead air directly to the air box

at high speed these act to pressurize the air box.

more air being forced into the throttle bodies the more fuel can be added and the more hp

    You don't need a R1
