Yamaha R5 350cc two stroke 1974 carb problem?

The slides that hold the needles close all the way down when cables are not attached and move freely up and down by hand. When cables are attached stay open about 1/4 way up no more adjustment on cables,its not the idle screws as they are still out of the carb body suspect the cables are wrong. can anybody tell me if the slides should close all the way when cables are in place?

  1. Yes, the slides should be closed with cables attached. Check routeing of the cables, if they are caught on something or mounted incorrectly the slides won't fully seat. If this checks out ok and you have no adjustment left, then I would agree with you when you say wrong cables. Hope this helps.
