Hey Bikers of Answers, i have a few questions about the Yamaha RD 125 LC ( red and white varient ).

Im thinking of purchasing this bike instead of a 49cc moped. Would i be able to ride it on L plates with my CBT ?

Also, i think the brakes and tires may need replacing, so a rough cost on parts would be helpfull.

And are these bikes good fuel saving solid runners?

Will give rep for top answer.

  1. belting bikes..done a few in the past..is it the mk1[italic wheels] mk2 [strait spoked] or mk3[smaler front wheelplus power valve]..?...tyres are £30 each,pads£10 a set..as long as youve done the cbt and are 17 your sorted...

  2. as long as your 17 or older you can ride it on a cbt unless it's been derestricted and putting out more than 15bhp. Lots of people don't worry about the derestriction and ride them anyway.

Not a good fuel saving bike at all buying fuel and 2 stroke oil adds up, they can be reliable but there are loads of ratty 125's that have been abused. If your main concerns are fuel and reliability then a cg125 or similar would be a much better choice, nowhere near as much fun though.

  3. If you are at least 17 years old, you can ride it it on 'L' plates, with a CBT.

The RD-125LC was developed in response to the (then newly introduced) maximum capacity for learners, which had been reduced from 250cc.

It was a race developed (hence the 'RD'), highly strung 2-stroke.

A four-stroke motor will get better fuel consumption, so it's not a good fuel saver.

Most were ragged to within an inch of their lives.  Friends who owned the little RD usually had a collection of holed pistons, from "tuning" them.  So, they are not what you'd call a 'solid runner', to be honest.  More of a young hooligan's tool...

  4. I'm sure you can ride upto 125CC on a CBT license although i'm not 100%
