Question:

Yamaha Silent Guitar as a carry-on baggage?

I will move from Seoul to San Francisco next month by JAL (Japanese Airline).

I'd like to carry on my Yamaha Silent Guitar on board, but the dimension of gig bag is slightly over the linear length 45 inch.

I heard that it was originally designed as a traveler guitar, but I'm worried if my guitar is rejected at the gate.

If you have the silent guitar and experienced airplane travel with it, please give me an advice.

Thank you in advance. :)

  1. I do not have the item you mentioned, but if it does not meet the total linear length (which is length PLUS height PLUS width) of 45 inches (which would seem awfully small), you will most likely have to check it.

What you can probably, and should do, is gate check it.  Two reasons, one it will receive better handling, and two, if the plane is not full they might be able to find a spot to squeeze it on..
