Yamaha Tech3 riders Edwards, Crutchlow complete San Marino GP in contrasting fashion – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 riders Colin Edwards and Cal Crutchlow finished the San Marino GP in contrasting fashion.
The Texan Tornado was seventh to start the race but unfortunately finished on 13th place.
The American rider was victimised by a severe arm pump issue after a few initial laps. From the start off, Edwards fought with Yamaha factory rider Ben Spies to gain on him.
Colin Edwards said, “I've got no excuses, today's result was nothing to do with anything else but me. I've no idea but for whatever reason, I just always ride so tense at this track. I kept telling myself that I needed to relax and calm down and then on
the grid there's a few rain drops in the air.”
Along with his arm issue and rain affected tarmac, he was not completely able to gather himself. As he explained, he was a little more tense in order to complete the race.
For the first ten laps, he struggled as much as possible to cover up some positions. However, as he closed in on Ben Spies, he was suddenly struck by an arm pump issue which cracked his strength. While approaching the end of the race his arm was totally
numb. Edwards restricted its move in particular direction because he could not even feel the brake lever on the handle bar.
The American veteran said that it was first time that he faced such a severe arm pump problem which almost forced him to retire from the race. Somehow, he carried on to score a couple of points from the race.
Cal Crutchlow said, “I am really pleased with the race and it is my first top 10 for a long time, so that is a good boost for my confidence. Finishing 10th was three places better than my qualifying position, so it was a positive outcome.”
The Brit added that he could have finished in better place if Hector Barbera had not passed him in the final corner. Barbera had the edge of more speed on Crutchlow’s Tech3 M1.
Though he started the race from 13th position on the grid but finishing on tenth place was a better end to the race day for him.
