Question:

Yamaha WR250 electric start won't crank in gear?

I have an '03 WR250, and I must have done something: the bike used to crank using the electric with the clutch lever pulled in and in gear...now, it won't...the only way it will crank with the electric start is to find neutral and then push the button!

Anyone have a similar problem or have an answer?

Thanks!!

  1. So put it in neutral.....problem solved

  2. HELLO

DOES IT STILL PULL AWAY LIKE IT USED TO?

IF SO THE CLUTCH MAY REQUIRES ADJUSTING,

IF NOT CLUTCH PLATES MAY REQUIRE CHANGING

  3. It's a safety feature, an interlock, to prevent the motorcycle starting in gear.   They can be defective, get stuck in one position. or the other.  Either it came unstuck, or another one has started working.

Start it up and lower the kick stand, see what happens.

Maybe you need to reread the motorcycle manual? See what  interlocks are on the bike? My motorcycle is killed automagically when it is in gear with the kick stand down. Very irritating until you get used to it. Just someone watching over us as if we needed another minder.

  4. The switch at the clutch lever is broken or unplugged.

Pull in the clutch lever to see if the pin of the switch is moving.

Check to see if the plug is connected.

Unplug the switch and connect the 2 wires together (on the wire harness side) - be careful doing this test - the engine can start with the trani in gear and the clutch lever untouched.

If the starter motor will turn (with the trani in gear), the circuit is good and the switch is bad.

  5. Is the kickstand down while you are trying to start it in gear. Try lifting up kick stand because some bikes will not start in gear with it down.
