I just bought a used XLT 1200. It sounds kind of wierd when you slow down or are at very low throttle. The exhaust makes a kind of popping noise. Also when your just idleing it seems to vibrate a lot. When I speed up it sounds fine. Is anything wrong with it?

  1. my yamaha waverunner used to do that as well. i thought nothing of it for awhile until the d**n muffler exploded (literally, no joke) and flooded the jetski with smoke from the motor. I replaced it with a big thick piece of PVC pipe from lowes and now it idles ALOT smoother and sounds like a big block when you get on that sucka!!!

i think its caused by all the 2 cycle oil over the years building up in that fiberglass muffler. and when i say exploded, i mean the muffler case cracked completely in half and blew out a chunk of muffler. i wouldve just gotten a OEM muffler from yamaha but those greedy b******s wanted 260 bucks for a replacement muffler, thats why i got a 2 dollar pipe and some good clamps. works great and ive had it for 3 years after that.

as for the "vibrations" they are normal man. those old yami's just like to shake a bit. mines done it since i got it new. i even replaced the motor mounts and it still does it. just live with it!
