Yamaha World Superbike Team rider Eugene Laverty disappointed with fifth places at Brno – WSBK news
Yamaha World Superbike Team rider Eugene Laverty is extremely disappointed with his fifth place finishes in race one and two at the Brno event of the 2011 World Superbike Championship.
Yamaha WSBK Team rider, Eugene Laverty said, “Today wasn't the best day for me, and I had hoped to do much better. I had to settle for two fifth places when I could have done more. I was struggling with power, and getting up straight line speed. I was on
the same pace as the top riders but losing time on straights even though I was riding to the limit.”
The Irish rider was aiming to score better positions for the eighth race duals with a front row start in both races. After struggling for a straight-line speed, he was left behind in the riders pack. Though he was fast around the corners but he lacked sufficient
pace to step up with the top riders. Later in both races, he slipped to a fifth position.
The Irish rider has been successful in the early part of the season as he scored a double win in the fourth round of the 2011 WSBK Championship, which was held at Monza, Italy. The Irish is running through his rookie season at WSBK after moving up from the
Supersport Series.
Laverty commented, “Considering the circumstances, the result wasn't too bad. We need to pull out the data and investigate to understand where we can improve and be stronger for Silverstone.”
The Yamaha World Superbike Team is ready to head to Silverstone, Great Britain for their next event. There the Irish rider will use the information collected by his team at the Brno event to improve his race strategy and get better results.
Laverty is hoping to show his true potential over the next round and improve his championship standings from a fourth place in points. Laverty’s teammate Marco Melandri is second at the points table.
Laverty has proved his potential in the motorcycle racing world after scoring two consecutive second places in the Supersport Championship in 2009 and 2010.
