Yamaha factory duo Jorge Lorenzo, Ben Spies struggle for race pace at Brno – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing riders’ duo Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies was struggling to improve the set up of M1 during the first day of Cardion AB Grand Prix race weekend at Brno, Czech Republic.
Both factory riders made little tweaks to their factory bikes and made improvements by the second free practice session. Though they remained on the same positions but shortened the time gap to the top fast rider.
Lorenzo said, “Today’s sessions have not been exactly as we expected. We are struggling a bit on braking and we lose too much time over the lap. Tomorrow we will work hard to improve the bike in the morning to be ready for qualifying because at this moment
we are pretty far from the front.”
The reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo was working to improve the braking ability of his bike. His M1 seemed to lack traction under braking and while entering the corners.
This caused him to lose time during the bends. However, he was fourth in the morning session with his best effort of 1:57.587 seconds. While in the second session, he again claimed fourth place with 1:57.174 seconds.
On the other side of the Yamaha factory garage, Lorenzo’s teammate Ben Spies was also facing same issue but the add-on was causing him problems. The pain hampered his performance and held him off from performing long session of run during FPs. He was placed
sixth in both free practice sessions, with an improvement of few tenths.
Spies said, “It was an ok day for us, I’m actually pretty happy with the results. I’ve got a little bit of a pinched nerve in my neck and I’m struggling a little bit on the bike but I’m still giving it 100%. Lap times aren’t too bad I’m just not able to
put too many laps together in a row.”
The American rider was feeling unpleasant with a stressed nerve in his neck. Though Spies is getting medical attention by Clinica Mobile but it will take time to get his nerve relaxed.
He will be undergoing physical therapy during the race weekend to avoid any kind of extended stress. Event after physically being stressed he is optimistic to play hard and improve for the race day.
