Yamaha it 175 Question?

Question

There is a funny little air box or something mounted under the petrol tank with a hose thet connects to the mounting between the carburator and the engin.Can any one tell wat is the purpose of this box.

This my friend is the air box,

The air flows into the box then through foam which is inside, gets filtered by the foam and goes into the carby then engine,

If you dont want the box you can take it off then replace it with a compact airfilter like those of air cooled thumpstars,

It's commonly reffered to as a "Boost Bottle".

It's purpose it to enhance engine performance at low speed operation.

!!!!Do NOT Remove it & replace it with an Air Filter.

That would create a Horrible Air Leak & seriously damage the engine!!!!

Is This the thing you are talking about?

Yamaha calls it "Air Chamber",,aka Boost Bottle as it's known to most folks.
