Yamaha not willing to sign Moto2 rider Marc Marquez for 2012 season – MotoGP news
Yamaha team has declined the rumour that they will look to sign Moto2 rider Marc Marquez for the 2012 MotoGP season.
Catalunya Caixa Repsol team rider Marc Marquez is leading the Moto2 championship ahead of Stefan Bradl. The Spanish rider runs a Suter machine in the championship and is the sole player of the team.
Team boss for Marc Marquez has revealed that Yamaha team has also shown some interest in the young Spanish rider for the 2012 debut 1000cc season.
Marc Marquez’s team boss Emilio Alzamora while talking to Motorcyclenews.com said, “Honda for the future has a big interest in Marc and I don’t know if that is for next season or not. Yamaha also would like to have a future with Marc, so nothing is decided.”
Repsol sponsors the HRC MotoGP team and also strongly backs Marquez’s team. The most likely situation is that the young Spanish rider will be moving to HRC if he steps up into MotoGP.
At the moment, HRC has dropped its budget for the MotoGP project and the last factory supported RC213V out of three bikes has been handed over to Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli. The Honda team so far has no vacancy for any new rider as Andrea Dovizioso
despite his strong performance has been released for 2012.
Tech3 team boss Herve Poncharal said, “Clearly Yamaha doesn’t want to produce any more than four bikes and honestly I’ve never spoken to Marquez or his people. If he wins Moto2 this year I think it would be a good move and great for MotoGP. But Marquez is
very much linked to Repsol, which is very much linked to Honda and I think their interest is more to enter MotoGP as part of the Honda family.”
Andrea Dovizioso has signed up with the Tech3 squad for the 2012 MotoGP season. The Italian will ride as a teammate with Cal Crutchlow aboard the 1000cc machines.
