Yamaha optimistic that it can regain its winning ways at Mugello – MotoGP news
Yamaha is optimistic that it can revert to its winning ways at the coming Mugello Grand Prix.
The plan for the team is to get back on top of the MotoGP podium after Honda has been able to come up with two back-to-back victories.
Casey Stoner crashed in the final lap of the recently concluded German Grand Prix. The situations led to Yamaha team leader Jorge Lorenzo to be in a strong position for the Championship even though Dani Pedrosa was able to defeat him in the race.
Stoner is keen to make up for the disappointing results at Sachsenring and Assen. Team director Massimo Meregalli agreed that there was a good chance for the team to stamp it authority in the title race.
“After two very difficult race weekends we arrive at Mugello, where we delivered a great victory last year,” said Lorenzo. “I love the track; it's very fast and should be a good one for our bike. I'm very happy to be leading the championship but we still
have many races to go so our target is to again aim for the podium and victory if it is possible.”
“The last two weekend's have been not what we predicted, but finally we head to Mugello with a lead in the championship, [and it's] a place where we know Jorge is very fast from last year's race,” said Meregalli.
The two teams Honda and Yamaha are currently tied at the top for the manufacturers’ standings. Lorenzo is 14 points ahead of winner of the German race Pedrosa and 20 points ahead of Stoner in the riders’ championship title.
Lorenzo won three straight grands prix prior to the Netherlands race where his race ended after he was taken out by Alvaro Bautista at the first corner. German Grand Prix lacked the pace require to challenge the Honda bikes in the race and that also resulted
in disappointment for the Yamaha riders.
The season has become very exciting with both teams going head to head for the title wins of the season. It will be interesting to see how the teams fare as the season progresses.
