  1. get a yamaha or a gemeinhardt. NEVER buy an armstrong because they are known to always have problems and low quality. ive had my yamaha for about 5 years now, and it is such a great flute! i also have a gemeinhardt piccolo that is ahhhmazingg and i love it. i got them both from woodwindsandbrasswinds.com whick is a great website with suprizingly low prices but good brands. good luck with your playing!

  2. i love armstrong...but if you want to spend a little more money for a lot more quality get a gemeinhardt they are amazing!

  3. Hello Flute Girl!!  :))

.....  Well, straight out of the hat... there are no dent resistant flutes.   Not Armstrong.  Not Yamaha.  None.   Any flute is prone to dents or dinging if it is exposed to bumps and bangs.. especially on the marching field.  Of the two,  I would have to put my recommendation on the Yamaha.  I feel Yamaha has the edge on producing flutes that have very freeblowing headjoints.    Yamaha flutes are consistantly good playing,  stay in adjustment,  have very good tone and are structurally sound.. made well and easy for repair guys to work on them.   If you are looking at the 200 series... maybe a 281?  These are particularly sturdy because they are built for the beginning student.   I would not hesitate to buy my child a Yamaha 281.. but I would insist that she learn to take really good care of it.   I think they cost about $600.00 brand new.

Good luck with shopping for your new flute.
