Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo takes the victory at Mugello – MotoGP news
The Mugello Grand Prix race was won by the Yamaha factory Racing driver Jorge Lorenzo in style as the Spaniard added to his lead of the season.
Repsol Honda team’s Dani Pedrosa was leading the race from turn one but Lorenzo got the lead back from Pedrosa after a few bends in the race. The early stages of the race had a lot of position exchanges between riders.
Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s driver Andrea Dovizioso managed to move past Pedrosa while Ducati Team’s Nicky Hayden and LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl kept their fight up for the fourth. Dovizioso managed to hold on to the fourth place in the race.
Lorenzo however was very quick starting from second on grid, he was able to take the lead in the first lap. He was so quick that he finished the race with 5.223 seconds clear by the finish line. This was Lorenzo’s fifth win of the season. He now leads the
table with 185 points and 19 clear of second placed Pedrosa.
He said, “From the beginning I felt great on this track, the asphalt was completely different to Sachsenring which was a nightmare for us. From the first practice here I felt very strong, very good on the bike and a fast constant pace. Today I was hammering
a lot to open a gap at the beginning of the race as I thought my competitors would have problems on cold tyres. Unfortunately I couldn’t do it immediately.”
He added that hammering through every lap and going as fast as possible was the option he took. He was able to add the lead little by little early in the race and when he had a good enough lead he relaxed a bit during the race. He praised the team management
and the bike he was provided by Yamaha as well.
Lorenzo’s team-mate Ben Spies finished 10th in the race. Spies was disappointed over his result in the race and was apologetic post race over his performance.
He said, “I’m so disappointed, not just for me but for my whole team and Yamaha who have worked so hard this weekend. I was feeling really not right from before warm up this morning and it just got worse over the day.”
It will be interesting to see if Lorenzo’s will be given a challenge in the remainder of the season or will he keep on dominating till the end.
