Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi aims for first MotoGP victory since 2010 – MotoGP news
7 time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi aims at winning his first MotoGP round in the upcoming season since 2010 Malaysian Grand Prix.
“If I didn't win but was on the podium every Sunday it might be OK. But a victory would be the watershed. The objective is to win, which I've not done since 2010,” Rossi said while talking
to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Rossi switched from Yamaha to Ducati in 2011. The decision proved quite detrimental as the 33-year-old Italian had to suffer two consecutive winless seasons; the only two winless seasons
in his MotoGP career. Rossi’s career worst run over two MotoGP seasons made him switch back to Yamaha.
When asked about his championship position aspirations, Rossi eyed a position amongst the top three riders in 2013 MotoGP championship.
“I'd like to have plenty of podium finishes, and to finish in the top three in the championship,” Rossi said.
According to Rossi, beating his Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo is not something Rossi will be able to accomplish right away. Rossi did not forget to mention his Honda rival Dani Pedrosa who
was seen challenging Lorenzo in 2012 for the MotoGP crown.
“Even if I'm not competitive with Lorenzo and Pedrosa, I need to try to be not far behind them. And it's still to be seen how Marquez will do,” said Rossi.
Lorenzo has spent more time riding the Yamaha bike than Rossi. Rossi claims that this is a plus point for his teammate and he will need some time to get a proper feel of the Yamaha bike.
Rossi said,
“Lorenzo’s strong point is that he knows the Yamaha better than me; I'll have to settle in bit by bit.”
Odds are pretty much against Rossi in the upcoming season. Older age, a new bike, a competitive teammate and not having won a single round for two years are some of the factors which will
make things difficult for the Italian. Setting all these facts apart, it is imperative for Rossi to reprove himself as a great MotoGP rider by at least winning a few MotoGP rounds in the upcoming season.
