Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi pleased after finishing Sepang in third – MotoGP news
On Thursday, 7 times MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi finished the first official MotoGP test for 2013 in third place. ‘The Doctor’ was very content with his run at Sepang.
“I'm very happy. I cannot expect a better start to this new adventure because the first test for us is so positive. I think we can fight for some important results, because I am fast and
competitive,” Rossi said giving an interview inside the Yamaha hospitality area.
At the end of the second day at Sepang, Rossi was behind Repsol Honda rookie Marc Marquez where as Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa stood held the 2nd a 1st place respectively. On the final
day, Rossi moved up one step in the timesheets managing a 3rd place finish.
“All these three days were positive, but today was the best - firstly because I am third and not fourth on the timesheet. So I am hypothetically on the front row,” Rossi said.
In the past two MotoGP seasons, Rossi could not win even a single Grand Prix round and managed only 3 podium finishes out of 37 races. But now that he will be riding for Yamaha Factory Racing
once again, the Italian seems hopeful that he will be able to challenge the likes of his teammate Lorenzo and his Repsol Honda rival Pedrosa.
“But anyway to start the season with the potential, and the target, to try to improve enough to fight with Pedrosa and Lorenzo is already a good step,” said Rossi.
Considering the fact that the Valencia test was washed out by rain, Sepang can righteously be categorised as Rossi’s practical return to Yamaha – the bike which Rossi rode for seven consecutive
seasons starting from 2004 until he switched to Ducati in 2011 MotoGP season.
The second official preseason outing will be held between February 26-28 at Sepang. MotoGP experts claim that Rossi will put in his best efforts to get back on the podium more frequently.
Rossi himself is craving for a Grand Prix victory in the upcoming MotoGP season and considering Rossi’s Sepang run, the Italian’s chances are very bright.
