Yamaha will be near front on starting grid of Spanish Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Final free practice session was ended with improving performances of the Yamaha Factory Racing riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies.
They have qualified for third and fourth places respectively on the starting grid for the Gran Premio bwin de Espana on Sunday. The track was blessed with better weather conditions as compared to Friday’s session when the winds blew hard on the track.
The 2010 World Champion, Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo has clocked his best time for the this weekend during the early practice session of Saturday with a lap time of 1:39.682 seconds.
After the practice session, he was focused with his crew to enhance the grip and feel of the M1 to have a better qualifying session. Lorenzo was able to lead the qualifying session at the start but slipped down to the third place by the near end of
the qualifying session. He was also one of the only three riders to rank in the 1:38 seconds time circle with few fraction of a second from the pole finish.
Lorenzo pushed hard on track and tried to make better lap time than his morning runs. The Lorenzo with his crew was one of the riders to improve during the tough conditions on the track. Then the rider tried the soft compound tires and gave a lap time
of 1:38.9 seconds, which was good enough to fall just milliseconds behind his compatriot Pedrosa on Repsol Honda RC212V and less than two-tenths off from pole sitter Stoner. Lorenzo is looking for a podium finish with confidence and has a sharp eye on any
opportunity which could him to bag the victory for the round of MotoGP.
Ben Spies showed improvements after a slow start as he also struggled to get his M1 more familiar and smooth in his hands, but by the qualifying session he was granted with a new front-end setup which blessed him with greater front-end traction and
better feel.
Spies with new setup quickly climbed up the time sheet but got his himself in an accident when entered the corner with high speed and lost his front end, which concluded his session before time. Now he will start from the second row in fourth place
just behind his team fellow Lorenzo.
Spies felt to have a great session for the weekend and praised the efforts of his crew that worked out through a tough race weekend. The crew had to keep up the two bikes for the practice sessions with different setups to get better out of it. After
their great job for making Spies even better on the bike, they feel to have a big improvement since Friday.
