  1. The most likely cause of this is excessive clearance between the impeller and the pump liner. It would feel like a car does when the clutch is worn, engine revs but boat doesn't accelerate quickly. If you apply throttle slowly, the boat will start moving and plane normally (a bit slower than normal). You have to visually inspect impeller and liner for gouges and wear. You should replace both as a set to get "like new" acceleration again.

  3. If you get debris in the impeller (pieces of rope, weeds, little rocks, etc.)  it will cause cavitation, or air bubbles instead of water passing through the impeller.   If something substancial passed through and bent a blade of the impeller, it will cause the same thing.

  4. There is no clutch or gearbox. Your bucket that covers the water output (also gives you reverse) may need adjusting or your impeller may be worn or damaged.
