im looking for a pair of barrels and pistons for my 1970 yam yr5, does anyone know of a decent stockist/breaker or even a mate who has one sat in a field???

or is it possible to fit rd350 barrels to a yr5 crankcase?

all ideas will be appreciated.

  1. I may have some R5 jugs laying around. I just sold my last R5 parts bike, I know I have a whole engine left over....

You should be looking for the RD350 barrels though, they bolt right on and pistons are readily availible, And they DO bolt right on, but you have to use the RD350 pistons. (its a nice preformance upgrade too)

I assume you are overseas from the states though by your language so shipping would probably kill you.......

  2. ive a pair some where..ill have a look..not sure if they bolt strait on but i know the rd350 has reedblocks , the yr5 doesnt.

  3. New R5 (as they were called in the States) pistons are very very difficult to find.  It took me months to find a set of new 3rd overs.

BUT... Yes the RD barrels fit and like the other guy said, you'll need RD pistons etc.  The *best* thing to do is buy a complete RD top end because you need the reeds and pistons.  You can use your original Rods and Heads.  You can then buy new pistons and rings reasonable if you need them.

The major difference between the top end is the R5 is a 5 port induction system and the RD is a 7 port Reed induction.  Dimensionally they are the same.

Another possibily if to find a used R5 top end but again, you are relying on them having a usable set of pistons...
