Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO defeats SCHWERINER SC – Challenge Round, 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup
A first leg match of the Challenge Round of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women took place in the Italian city of Busto Arsizio.
The two teams that competed with each other were Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO, the home team from Italy and the German SCHWERINER SC. The venue of the competition was the Palayamamay sports hall which was filled by a total of 2,300 spectators who has come in support
of the home team.
The competition that followed when the two teams met took five thrilling sets to reach its close after which the home side was able to emerge as victors. The scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 23-25, 25-16, 25-11, 22-25 and 15-7.
The coach of the home team, Carlo Parisi, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference that was held after the match had ended, “It was somehow a strange match and our opponents got back on track in set 4 also thanks to our own mistakes
after we had just completed a great comeback. I have to praise all of my players because they were always very concentrated and did well especially in the deciding tie-break. Floortje Meijners played a good match especially by taking into account that she
was added to the starting six at the very last moment as Francesca Marcon suffered a slight injury during the warm-up.”
The first set of the match went back and forth between the two sides but the win eventually came towards the guests. However, the home team was able to step up their game and deliver a superior performance to smother the guests and make the match reach a
tie at 25-16.
The third set too saw the guests being completely dominated by the home side at 25-11 but the Germans were able to take the match to a fifth set by winning the fourth frame at 25-22. The final set of the game did not take much time to end as the home side
won it at 15-7.
The player who was able to earn the title of best scorer was Christina Bauer of the home side as she was able to put up a total of 22 points in the entire match.
