Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO enters semi-finals of 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup
The quarter-finals of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women took place in the German city of Schwerin on February 28.
The two teams that competed against each other were the Italian squad of Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO as well as the home team of SCHWERINER SC. The number of spectators that came to watch the competition were more than 1,000.
Both the teams took the match to four thrilling sets at the end of which the home fans were disappointed as the Italians made it to the semi final round of the championship. The final set scores stood at the following figures: 25-20, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-20.
The coach of the home team, Teun Buijs, shared his views by making the following comments at the press conference that was held after the match had reached its close, “Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO is one of the best teams in Europe and we are still on our way to
the top. So this match is another step to improve and to get more experience at this level.”
The first set of the match saw the lead being taken up by the home team. The SSC were also able to extend their advantage however, the guests swung things in their favour during the middle of the frame and managed to keep the home team trailing behind for
the rest of the opening frame till the end at 25-20.
The second set of the frame saw the home team fall into errors and the Italians were able to use it to their advantage by taking a significant lead and keeping the pressure on the Germans throughout the set. Despite the fact that the Germans trailed far
behind, they were able to close in the gap but remained unsuccessful in bagging the second frame as well.
The loss of the first two sets got the Germans to work hard in the third frame and the pressure of a clean sweep by the Italians enabled the home team to win the third set of the match. Despite the effort put in by the Germans, the Italians were able to
bag the fourth set as well.
