Yan Kit Chan ousts Suppanyu Avihingsanon in round-of-16 of the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix
Hong Kong’s Yan Kit Chan continued his convincing run in the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix event as he has trounced Thailand’s Suppanyu Avihingsanon in their Men’s Singles round-of-16 contest at Richmond DC, Canada, on Thursday, July 21.
Yan Kit, who is the seventh seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the Canada Open, proved that he is one of the major contenders for the title in the event, as he showed no respect to the Thai shuttler and crushed him in straight-sets with a remarkable margin.
The win also booked him a berth in the top-8.
The match started in an impressive manner, as both shuttlers delivered a tremendous performance by playing attacking badminton throughout the opening game. They engaged the crowd by playing at their best, as they employed all of their skills to put pressure
on each other.
The Hong Kong player managed a small lead of two points by reaching 11-9. The Thai shuttlers tried to catch the speed of his opponent, but he was struggling as Yan Kit was playing with precision.
The seventh seed continued his planned game after the break and penetrated into the concluding phase of the set, where he managed to win the game with a margin of 21-15, in 17 minutes.
The second set was a great show of the talent of Yan Kit, who remained in incredible control of the game as he maintained a firm grip on the pace of the rallies. He was moving around the court with wonderful ease and his powerful smashes left no room for
the Thai shuttler to comeback in the match.
Yan Kit progressed with an incredible pace as he reached in the ending phase in a flash. Suppanyu tried hard to reduce the deficit, but he failed against the planned and aggressive play of his challenger.
Yan Kit finished-off the match with an incredible difference of 21-5, in just 11 minutes. This 28-minute round-of-16 battle ended with the score of 21-15 and 21-5.
