Yana Martynova clinches Women’s 400m IM gold – Swimming news
Yana Martynova of Russia clinched gold medal in the event of Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on initial day of the Swimming events at the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russia on Wednesday, July 10.
Martynova devastated hopes of her opponents in the distant IM discipline and stepped on the finishing end for the title. She faced tough competition from her closest competitor in the start but with her strong determination, she managed to secure the title.
With her impeccable pace, she remained in a lead of 1.38 seconds over her toughest challenger and transpired on the finishing wall for gold medal with an effort of 4 minutes and 39.02 seconds.
Subsequently, the second best spot of the race was obtained by Meghan Hawthorne of USA, who stayed one and a half body lengths slower from her former finisher and emerged on the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 40.40 seconds.
The second best finisher was chased by Sakiko Shimizu of Japan, who was 1.69 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 4 minutes and 42.09 seconds.
The third best finisher was chased by Barbora Zavadova of Czech Republic, who stayed 1.64 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing wall for fourth spot by posting an effort of 4 minutes and 43.73 seconds.
Fifth position of the event was obtained by Marni Michelle Oldershaw of Canada, who was almost 0.70 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 44.47 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was obtained by Tianna Chantelle Rissling of Canada, who stayed marginally apart and posted a time of 4 minutes and 44.62 seconds.
Following that, Sarah Henry of USA and Victoria Malyutina of Russia, who concluded their swims in seventh and eighth best place by touching the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 46.02 seconds and 4 minutes and 46.18 seconds respectively.
In addition, Martynova was extremely overjoyed with her top finish in the race while the position holders received medals and accolades at the prize ceremony of the tournament.
