Yana Stadnik, Olga Butkevych not to be part of Team GB in London 2012 Olympic Games
According to a report by Sportsmail, Yana Stadnik and Olga Butkevych, will not be able to take part in the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games as they will not be able to represent Team GB.
Both the athletes are Ukraine born and had applied for British passports so that they could be a part of Team GB but their passports have been rejected by the British government.
The two athletes had been aspiring to take make a show of their skills in the wrestling event of the Olympic Games which are to start from July 27 and last until August 12. However, both their applications turned out to have problems that caused the rejection
of the passports. The documents of the two athletes were submitted to the Home Office by the British Wrestling during this week.
The British Wrestling will be paying a high price by letting go of the two athletes as both Stadnik and Butkevych were the only two female athletes that it had wanted to name for representing British Wrestling in the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The loss of the two athletes has been commented upon as a victory to some groups who allege that the British have been responsible for importing in athletes from nations with which they have the slightest technical ties so that more medals can be hurled
in for Team GB.
Colin Nicholson, who is the chief executive of the British Wrestling, defended the two female wrestlers in the following manner, “These athletes have been in the country for a long period and have contributed to the Great Britain team in an immeasurable
way. They have done a lot to motivate and inspire British youngsters.”
Despite the fact that the British Wrestling thinks highly of the two athletes and wants both Stadnik and Butkevych to represent the United Kingdom in the London 2012 Olympic Games, it is not a likely possibility that the British Olympic Association is going
to stand up on behalf of the two female wrestlers in order to make a plea with the British Home Office in the matter of their passports.
