Yang Li Lian turns into elite shuttler at the Uber Cup Preliminary Round – Badminton news
Malaysia’s talented young player in Women’s Singles category, Yang Li Lian, has turned into an elite shuttler after delivering a sensational performance against India in the Group-A match of Uber Cup Preliminary Round on Tuesday, February 14, in Macau.
The 19-year-old Li Lian has been performing well at junior circle for the last three years and has also won the titles in Under-16 and Under-18 categories at the 100Plus National Junior Circuit.
However, no one was expecting such an incredible performance from her in the qualifying round of Uber Cup. But she did it and proved that there is plenty of fire in her belly and she can spoil the party of any top shuttler in the world on a given day.
Li Lian played remarkable badminton against Sayali Gokhale of India in the decisive Women’s Singles fight and managed to win it in a sensational fashion.
Li Lian has been playing in the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) and put in her maximum effort which brought her elevation as she got a place in the national team for Uber Cup, which was like a dream come true for her.
The spirited young shuttler could not have expected for a better performance as she helped her team to find a berth in the quarter-final of the tournament.
While talking about her performance against India, Li Lian said that she did well by having the support of her team and it has given her confidence to perform well in the upcoming matches as well.
She said, “I could hear all their voices cheering and urging me on. They told me not to give up when I was trailing 2-11. And I did not want to let my team-mates down.”
She added, “This is a lucky break for me. I was among the spectators when Malaysia played in the Uber Cup Finals two years ago. I was very happy when I made the team as a late replacement. Now, I am overjoyed to win a point for Malaysia. It all seems surreal
to me.”
Now, the coaches are looking forward for more elevated performance from her as she proves that Malaysia can rise to the occasion and can qualify for the Uber Cup Finals.
