Yang Yang claims Men’s 50m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Yang Yang of China claimed gold medal of the Men’s 50m freestyle in S2 category on day nine of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Friday, September 7.
The Chinese expert remained prominently ahead of his rivals from the start and showed his urgency towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
With his unmatchable efforts, Yang remained comfortably ahead of his rivals on the finishing blockade as he touched the wall for the title by reporting a time of 1 minute and 01.39 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Dmitrii Kokarev of Russia, who remained 1.08 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by reporting a time of 1 minute and 02.47 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Aristeidis Makrodimitris of Greece, who remained nearly two body lengths slower but managed to secure third position by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 04.86 seconds.
Subsequently, Makrodimitris was trailed by Jacek Czech of Poland, who was almost 1.60 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 06.41 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth best spot of the race was obtained by Iad Josef Shalabi of Israel, who stayed 0.66 seconds slower and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 07.07 seconds.
Shalabi was traced by his teammate, Itzhak Mamistvalov, who was 0.87 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end as sixth best finisher with a timing of 1 minute and 07.94 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Ievgen Panibratets of Ukraine, who was 0.81 seconds behind and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 08.75 seconds.
The Ukrainian swimmer was trailed by Curtis Lovejoy of USA, who was almost five seconds behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 13.45 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Yang received massive appreciation from the audience for his gruelling efforts in the single lap freestyle event and expressed his desire of continuing the same in future events.
