Yang Yang clinches Men’s 100m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Yang Yang of China clinched gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle in S2 category on day five of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Monday, September 3.
Yang served notice of his talent in the 100m freestyle event and lowered the world record of the event. With his astonishing pace, he spoiled the party of his opponents and earned his way to the podium for gold medal.
Yang crushed hopes of his opponents in the two-lap discipline as he rushed his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 03.71 seconds.
The champion was chased by Dmitrii Kokarev of Russia, who stayed almost 13 seconds apart and finished second in the event by reporting an effort of 2 minutes and 16.46 seconds.
Kokarev was chased by Aristeidis Makrodimitris of Greece, who stayed almost five seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end as third position holder by producing a time of 2 minutes and 21.04 seconds.
Subsequently, Makrodimitris was traced by Jacek Czech of Poland, who stayed 1.80 seconds behind and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting an effort of 2 minutes and 22.84 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Iad Josef Shalabi of Israel, who remained two body lengths behind and surfaced on the finishing blockade by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 24.73 seconds.
Shalabi was trailed by his teammate, Itzhak Mamistvalov, who was 0.87 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 25.60 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Francesco Bettella of Italy, who was almost six seconds apart and hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 31.17 seconds.
Bettella was chased by James Anderson of Great Britain, who occupied eighth spot of the race by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 31.33 seconds.
Yang was overjoyed with his gold claiming effort and collected his accolade at the victory ceremony of the event.
