Yang Yu and Wang Xiaoli oust Mizuki Fujii and Reika Kakiiwa to win All England Premier Super Series
China’s duo of Yang (F) Yu and Wang Xiaoli have defeated the
pair of Mizuki Fujii and Reika Kakiiwa of Japan, in the Women’s Doubles final of the All England Premier Super Series 2011, at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England, on March 13.
The number three seed Chinese pair entertained the crowd with their wonderful performance and took just 27 minutes to hammer the Japanese duo, which had got rid of team-mates Shizuka Matsuo and Mami Naito in straight sets, in the semi-final of the event.
Yang and Xiaoli delivered a superb performance throughout the event as they won all of their matches in straight games until the quarterfinal. In the semi-final, the Chinese pair defeated Line Damkjaer Kruse and Marie Roepke of Denmark in a thrilling three-set
fight. In this semi-final battle, a great show was put before the crowd from both sides and the Chinese emerged as winners in the end.
The Chinese pair was considered as favourite on paper, as the Japanese ladies never defeated the pair in their previous meetings. Yang and Xiaoli remained focused from the starting moments to the end of the match and spared no chance for Fujii and Kakiiwa
to fight back in the match.
In the first set, the Chinese duo were in the lead throughout the first game, as their opponents were quite helpless against the superb performance of the number three seeds.
Yang and Xiaoli stunned everybody in the interval of the opening half, by taking a mindboggling lead of 11-1 in front of a packed indoor arena. The Chinese were playing at their best as they were employing powerful smashes together with strong pushes from
the net. After the one-minute-break, the Japanese duo was trailing behind the Chinese pair in every department of the game and lost by a stunning margin of 21-2, in just 12 minutes.
In the second game, Yang and Xiaoli continued their terrific performance and took a considerable lead in the opening-half of the game. Fujii and Kakiiwa tried very hard to match the speed and accuracy of their opponents but failed, as the Chinese were far
ahead in the proper execution of stokes. There was a clear difference in the skills and temperament of the game, as the Chinese were winning points easily. At the one-minute-interval, the number three seeds were leading with a huge margin of 11-4.
After the interval, Chinese ladies remained on the winning track by maintaining the speed of the rallies. They left no room for the Japanese to comeback in the second set by playing an attacking game. Yang and Xiaoli took only 15 minutes to win the second
set with a wonderful difference of 21-9. The end result of this 27-minute-final battle was 21-2 and 21-9.
