Yani Tseng's presence to cheer fans at Sybase Match Play Championship
Yani Tseng, who gave a miss to the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, scheduled to take place from April 26-29, at Magnolia Grove’s Crossings Course, will now head to Hamilton Farms, Gladstone to participate in the Sybase Match Play Championship.
The Match Play Championship is slated to be held from May 17-20, with several leading LPGA stars.
Analysts said that golf fans at Gladstone are impatiently waiting for the current world number one Yani Tseng to show up, as she is considered a major source of attraction for this event.
Tseng has been spectacular since the start of the current season. She has racked up 3 LPGA titles so far. The Taiwanese star has been indomitable in most of the tournaments that she has participated in.
The top-ranked star was being expected to participate in the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, but she preferred to stay at home for a while before heading to Gladstone.
Analysts said that the field at the Mobile Bay Classic will not be affected due to Tseng’s absence, as it already features competent players.
Some of the key players set to tee off the much-hyped event include Katherine Hull, Beth Bader, world number three Suzann Pettersen, Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, So Yeon Ryu, Christina Kim, Karrie Webb and Sun Young Yoo.
The tournament officials said that the match will feature several American players, which is a good sign.
“Anytime you have the top American players Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis and Brittany Lincicome (all ranked in the top 10 of the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings), plus crowd favourites like Christina Kim, Morgan Pressel and Natalie Gulbis, we
are in for a great week of entertaining golf in Mobile," Tournament Director, Jonathan Romeo said.
Tseng played in the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Lotte Championship last week.
Her fans expected her to repeat her magic in the event played at Ko Olina Golf Club, Hawaii, but she faltered in the final round and settled tied for the 10th.
The Mobile Bay LPGA Classic has become even more important for fans, as the best 14 players will be selected to participate in the Sybase Match Play Championship.
“With the first 48 competitors already announced, the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic will help ensure the strongest players get the chance to compete in the 2012 tournament,” said Tournament Director Harry Hardy.
