Yani Tseng all set to defend title at Hoylake
Taiwanese Yani Tseng, whose biggest aspiration is to cling to the number one position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, is ready to defend her title at the upcoming Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012.
The Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 will start from September 13-16, at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, Wirral, United Kingdom, pitting LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) titans against each other.
The battle seems to have grabbed just about everyone’s attention — from media to players and from observers to fans.
Yani Tseng is certainly the strongest contender for Ricoh Women’s British Open that is offering a whopping $2.75 million to the winner.
However, it remains to be seen how the top-ranked prodigy fares against rivals eager to hamper her from defending her title.
No matter how sloppy her performance might have been in the recent tournaments, Tseng still has what it takes to trouble rivals, and she has decided to toughen up this time.
The Taiwanese star has been faltering lately as she has not been able to record a good finish in most of the recent tournaments — but the golfing sensation has shown a trend in the past that once she regains her momentum, she tends to start racking up titles after titles.
Observers said that the upcoming battle will not be easy for Tseng — not matter how eager she may be.
Nevertheless, they pointed out that the world number one golfer has recorded two straight victories at the Ricoh Women’s British Open in 2010 and 2011 —something that has put her in the strongest position.
Observers also said that Tseng’s biggest rival at Wirral will be Stacy Lewis of the United States.
Lewis has been performing well in the current season, and has managed to seize the second position in Women’s World Golf Rankings in recent weeks.
Thanks to vast experience of the course and the tournament, Lewis ranks among the hot favourite contenders for the prestigious title, and she has also improved her game greatly in the current season.
“I've played well this year and I think more than anything I've played really consistent and that's kind of what's gotten me there,” Lewis said during her pre-tournament interview with LPGA on Tuesday.
