Yani Tseng bags “Player of the Year” accolade yet again on the LPGA
World number one in Ladies Golf, Yani Tseng has clinched the Player of the Year accolade for a second consecutive year on the Ladies professional Golf Association (LPGA). The decision was announced by the tour chief executive Mike Wahan himself ahead of
the inaugural event on the LPGA calendar, the Sunrise LPGA Championship scheduled in Taiwan.
"It feels very special for me," Tseng said in a statement released by the LPGA. "This week I can be sure to honour all of the fans in Taiwan and I really appreciate the LPGA Tour for giving me the opportunity."
For Tseng, however, that’s not the end of the list. She won six events in the current season, including two major titles. She is on top of the money list by a huge margin and is also leading the scoring average.
“It means a lot to me especially because I won it two years in a row and I never even thought last year I would win it. I set out a goal in the beginning of the year to hopefully win it again and I do my best every tournament.” The 22-year-old further added.
She will be heading for her homeland Taiwan for the inaugural event and will surely be attracting huge crowds on the weekend. Tseng has won five major titles in the course of her career which barely spans four years. Most of the victories coming this year
were won by mammoth leads, where Tseng denyied the rest of the competitors any chance to make their move on the final day. She won the Honda LPGA Thailand by five strokes, Wegmans LPGA Championship by 10 strokes and Ricoh Women’s British Open by three strokes,
Last two of them being both major events.
Tseng started off her professional career in 2007 after being ranked as the top-ranking amateur player in Taiwan from the year 2004-2006. She won her first title on LPGA in 2008 when she took the better off the field at the LPGA Championship, a major event
on the tour calendar. She was also bestowed with the Rookie of the Year title for her stunning accomplishment. She was the first player from Taiwan to win any major title on LPGA.
Tseng has always been a great fan of the LPGA veteran Annika Sorenstam and currently resides in the house she purchased from Sorenstam at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Orlando, Florida. She will be handed over the award at the season-ending CME Titleholders
on November 20. Tseng is also the youngest player ever in both male and females who has won five major ttiles in the age of 22. she is also the fastest player in the history of the tour to reach the $2-million mark in terms of annual earnings.
