Yani Tseng caps off troubled season in Florida
Current world number one Yani Tseng could not perform well at the CME Group Titleholders 2012, as she posted an overall 287 to take a share of the 26th position along with American Mina Harigae and Australian Lindsey Wright.
It was a performance tainted by plenty of mistakes, as Tseng blew easy chances to score early in the four-round event, held at The TwinEagles Club, Naples, Florida.
Tseng, who belongs to Taiwan and is still the number one contender in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, was favourite for the title, but a poor start dampened her spirits.
She posted a 75 in the first round, something that let most of her nearest rivals surge past her. Although the weather conditions remained good throughout the day, Tseng found it hard to handle the ball well on the greens.
In the second round, Tseng’s game remained rickety as it further sapped her confidence. She carded an unimpressive 73 on Friday, which was not enough to help her make a fresh charge in the leaderboard positions.
Such was the ferocity of the star-spangled season finale that most of the big stars, who were confident their magical skills would place them at the top, came crashing down as the match stretched into its final two rounds.
The Taiwanese star was one of the losers—despite her surging from a tie 33 to 26th in the final round.
Commentators said that Tseng enjoyed a much better reception in Florida than most of the other contenders in the roster, given her number one position in world rankings. But the top-ranked prodigy continued her winless stint in the last event of the 2012
LPGA season.
It was players like Na Yeon Choi of South Korea who crushed the entire lineup. Choi displayed a stellar performance in all four rounds, registering a total score of 274 to grab the prestigious title.
“I think that's why I had pressure from the last night even front nine today, but when I had double bogey,” Choi said while speaking to the LPGA Tour at the end of the tournament on Sunday.
“And when I chasing or tied first place with So Yeon, I mean, at that moment I felt more comfortable than leading”.
