Yani Tseng cards 7-under 65 in the second round of Honda LPGA Thailand
Yani Tseng carded an impressive 7-under 65 in the second round of the Honda LPGA Thailand, strengthening her position on the leaderboard.
The event being played at Pattaya’s Siam Country Club saw Tseng produce an unimpressive game on the first day, but she atoned for her lapses on Friday, finishing tied for 5th.
The current world number one is seeking to defend the title at Pattaya this year. The field at the Honda LPGA Thailand is featuring tough contenders such as Suzann Pettersen and Karrie Webb.
The first round was not so impressive for Tseng, as she struggled to find a foothold on the course.
With strong winds that swept through the fairways, Tseng found herself in a little uncomfortable situation, as she missed too many good chances.
Although the Thai star has done what she has been looking to, there are still 14 players who have yet to finish their rounds.
It remains to be seen how the positions on the leaderboard change once all the players have completed their rounds.
However, finishing tied for the 5th place has lifted Tseng’s hopes to defend her title.
According to the details of the second round, Aussie Karrie Webb stands atop the leaderboard, with a stunning 12-under 65.
However, Tseng grabbed most of the attention due to her improvement in the second round. At the end of the first round, she was tied for 36th, struggling to move ahead.
With 7 impressive birdies, she made sure she was in a position that could help her seize the top spots. She faltered on the 17th hole, as she erroneously made a bogey.
However, she bounced back in her usual form on the last hole and drained a much-needed eagle.
"On the last hole, I was just thinking to try to make birdie because it's a par 5 and I knew I could reach the green in 2," Tseng said of her best shot on the 18th.
She concluded, "Then I hit a great shot to about 7-8 feet. Little downhill to the right and made a great putt to make eagle on the last hole. It was great to finish that way".
