Yani Tseng clings to share of 8th position in second round of Mizuno Classic 2012
Current world number one Yani Tseng gave a glimmer of hope to her fans in the second round of Mizuno Classic 2012 as she posted a 70 to stand tied for the 8th position.
Tseng started the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) event with an aim to end her victory drought, but she failed to vault into the top 5 in the first two rounds.
However, the top-ranked prodigy can rebound in the third and final round on Sunday, which can help her position on the leaderboard.
Tseng started the round on Saturday at Kintetsu Kashikojima Country Club, Shima-s**+, Mie, Japan, with a birdie on the first hole. She parred the next five holes in a row and fired another
birdie on the par-5 7th.
On the back nine, the struggling star switched to a shaky mode as she carded two bogeys. But shooting two birdies on the 13th and 16th kept her in contention.
Commentators said that Tseng could not have started any better in Japan, although her fans have pinned high hopes on her following a much-better performance in the last two LPGA tournaments.
They said that the course conditions troubled Tseng a little as she faced difficulty on some holes in the first round on Friday.
Sharing her thoughts while speaking to the LPGA Tour during her first-round interview on Friday, Tseng said that she is happy with her performance, but will have to focus more on her putts.
“I’ve had some good tee-shots and putts but just my 2nd shots were not coming along,” said the Taiwanese star who has not won any tournament since her last victory at the Kia Classic
2012, held in March.
She said that there were several holes that could have been played in a better way, especially the ones on the back nine.
“I’m very disappointed with the bogeys on 15th and 18th. I should made more chances but I couldn’t, it’s just one of those days. 1 under par is not a bad score but
I could’ve done better,” Tseng said.
South Korean Bo-Mee Lee is leading the tournament, with an overall two-round score of 134. While American Stacy Lewis registered a 70 on Saturday to cling to her share of 8th position.
