Yani Tseng defends title at Honda LPGA Thailand
Yani Tseng defended her title at Honda LPGA (Ladies Professional golf Association) Thailand after she carded an amazing 66 in the last round at Siam Country Club.
Yani Tseng was the hot favourite to win the much-hyped event and this Sunday was certainly the most momentous of the 2012 season.
The current world number one appeared to be in high spirits, as she kicked off the day by scoring a much-needed eagle on the 1st hole. She parred the 2nd and reeled off her first birdie.
Yseng found it a little hard to snatch the lead from the third-day leader Ai Miyazato. The weather conditions at Siam Country Club were favourable, helping the Thai make the most of her amazing putting skills.
Miyazato from Japan was more than happy in the third round, as she managed to gain a lead over the winner, but Tseng repeated her usual form and carved out another victory at LPGA Thailand.
Tseng stunned the spectators with her calculated putts. She made a few errors on some of the difficult holes.
The par-3 4th hole nearly cost her bogey, but she was quick to realise the pressure and ended up carding a par.
She scored two straight birdies on the 6th and 7th holes, bringing her score on the front nine to 31. The score was well enough to offset the impact of lapses in the third round.
On the back nine, she appeared to be in a tight spot, as she had to face a bogey on the 10th. She bounced back on the 12th, reeling off an impressive birdie.
Battling a nervy situation, Tseng knew that the only way to make her way to the top was by avoiding bogeys.
She lost momentum once again and made her second bogey on the par-4 13th. She then parred 3 holes in a row.
"It was an incredible shot. I think it's the shot of the week," Tseng said Sunday. "Especially, I saw that Ai hit it so close and I knew she was going to make that putt. So, I tell myself, 'I need to get this close' ".
The current world number one conceded that she had to face some trouble making scores. "It was tough. I had 104 to the pin and a little uphill. I know my ball is going to spin a lot, so I just tried to keep it low and not spin too much".
