Yani Tseng desperately needs more wins to protect her number one position in world rankings
Things have become so bad for the current world number one Yani Tseng lately that even her admirers have started looking for flaws in her game.
Tseng, who has maintained her ascendency in women’s golf for a long time now, is under scrutiny these days, as she has not been able to show her skills in recent tournaments.
The last three tournaments went awfully bad for Tseng, as she recorded over-par scores.
Analysts said that posting over-par scores in the last three events has genuinely worried the superstar, and she has started to see her game from a different perspective now.
For instance, in the last event of the current season, US Women’s Open 2012, the LPGA giant looked completely devastated, as she made lousy strokes on most of the holes she played.
Analysts added that despite getting off to a good start in the current season, Tseng has lost her confidence lately. They said if the 23-year-old star is unable to fix her fatal flaws in the next few months, her seemingly safe position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings could be in jeopardy.
Having racked up three victories in the current season, Tseng was seeking to continue consolidating her number one position in world rankings. She put a big smile on her fans’ faces when she won the Honda LPGA Thailand in February 2012.
She seemed unstoppable as she grabbed yet another title at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup in month of March.
Even after her second victory, the top-ranked prodigy did not appear complacent and kept troubling her rivals by displaying a solid performance.
Her last victory of the current season was recorded at the Kia Classic. However, after bagging appreciation from her fans, Tseng looked completely out of form at the Sybase Match Play Championship.
Analysts said that this was the point when the feared golfer started faltering, and she has been struggling to get back on track since.
Golf commentators said that Tseng’s grim performance in recent tournaments has done other players a great favour, as some players have managed to improve their rankings in the past two weeks.
South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who won her first major championship at the US Women’s Open 2012, has risen to the second position in world rankings.
Analysts also pointed out that the only thing for Tseng to keep on the safe side is to grab a victory or two in the upcoming tournaments.
