Yani Tseng faces performance dip yet again
Current world number one Yani Tseng faced a performance dip once again when she failed to finish off the Lorena Ochoa Invitational 2012 last week as strong as her fans expected.
Tseng took part in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational 2012 with an eye on the title, as the top-ranked prodigy knew that the only way to regain her lost charisma was winning at least one tournament
before the season ends.
The four-day Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament featured a competent roster packed with almost all the top-ranked contenders.
However, Tseng was being considered a favourite for the prestigious title, despite a performance slump.
She posted a 70 in the first round, giving her nearest rivals plenty of room to move ahead. In the second round on Friday, the Taiwanese star tried to improve her position on the leaderboard,
but remained jittery as all her efforts could gain was a score of 71.
Despite favourable weather conditions that saw calm winds sweeping through the course throughout the tournament, Tseng could not make calculated putts on most of the holes.
She posted a devastating 76 in the third round to further dented her score.
American Cristie Kerr remained the star performer, as she fired an overall score of 272 to win the title. Kerr remained in contention in all the four rounds.
Commentators said that Tseng was not in her best form last week, but her performance in Asia had been quite satisfactory.
LPGA’ latest tour to Asia, which staged four tournaments each in Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan, saw Tseng display her best form since she last racked up a title at Kia Classic in
March 2012.
Although under immense pressure from her fans, Tseng finished third at LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012 and Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship.
She then recorded a fourth-place finish at Mizuno Classic 2012, held from November 2-4 in Japan.
With the 2012 season fast coming to a close, it has become crucial for Tseng to end her brief victory drought. Although she is still standing strong at the number one position in the Women’s
World Golf Rankings, other players have emerged as big threat lately, causing her to ponder what has been missing in her once-solid game.
